| Ada and her best friend, Ms. Peterson |
| Ada died of the flu. Unbeknown to Ada or her best friend Ms. Peterson, was the fact that they both had contacted the flu and died 2 days apart. Grandpa transported her body to the church in Minnersville in a horse drawn wagon. Some of the members of the congregation did not want Ada to be brought there as they thought her body would contaminate the church. When Ada was brought into the church all was very quiet. No one said a word. Finally Grandpa broke the silence when he sang his favorite Finnish hymn: Ihana Rauhan Ranta (That Beautiful Shore Provideth) The funeral proceeded. Ada is buried in High Bridge. The family had no money to purchase a tombstone for Ada so the family's good friend, Matt Mattson, (North York shoe maker) purchased this stone for Ada. Back in the 1980's Jenny, Lembe, and Martha pitched in and purchased a stone for Matt as he did not set aside money to purchase a tombstone for himself. Bill & Martha lived (live) in Matt's house.
